Next time, I suggest approaching the conductor privately and explaining to him your thoughts on the matter in a professional way. If he still wants it left out....then so be it. Is he wrong in this instance... yes, but if everyone in the group were allowed to ignore the conductor's wishes it would be so chaotic that nothing (even a bad interpetation) would be accomplished. You may also want to speak to the member of the group who suggested the idea so he could better understand what you feel is the composer's intent.

There will be some "bad asses" on this board who say ignore him and play it anyway. The only thing you will accomplish in doing this is looking like an "ass" yourself.

But, the good news is that Ken is definately right. It's free game in the bars afterwards and think of all the snickering to be had.
