Dear Anthony, I almost never tell a creative person to "Forget it !"
I agree that You proububally can't get what you want easily, but re-inventing
the wheel is and will always be My speicality.
Go to any auto paint store and ask for Tempo clear lacquer. It's made by
VAlSPAR, so it's orderable from a lot of places. You may be able to get it
through a autobody shop by talking them into ordering it for you.
It's cheep too!
Now the bad news the other guy was right; its extreamaly hard to apply.
The who reason that NO MODERN CARS ARE PAINTED IN LACQUER is its lousy paint!
It checks, it crazes, it blushes like crazy (the whiteness) and its extreamly
sencitive to base metal plolution. Furthermore it isn't flexable enough for
mordern five mile an hour plastic bumpers.
I tryed TEMPO brand lacquer on My tuba and it "ORANGEPEALED" like I can't
begin to tell you.
Now for the good news. There is qa water based product form BENJAMIN Moore
called Stays Clear that can be applied with brush, rooler, or airless sprayer
that may be a perfect substute.
It too needs a perfectaly, perfectaly, perfectaly,....absolutaly clean surface
to start with, but I believe that if you can find sonone who sprays this stuff
regularly (it's for floors) then You can get it protected for ten years or longer
(except where your hands rub - and sweat on it)
Thats My two cents.
Anyway good luck with it Anthony !
