I built a bell-crank frame for a tuning stick that didn't solder to the instrument by bending a heavy brass sheet so that it slipped over the relevant tubes, and the clamping it in place with nylon wire ties. It was temporary to the test the idea without messing up the lacquer, but in the end I felt no need to change it because it just worked. If you get to the point where you feel like making something I'll send you a sketch.
