Perhaps sports are also a consideration? The combination tuba-water polo scholarship? There are a number of ways to rank schools--many of the published rankings are *beauty contests*--not based on output measures but on some outfit like US News calling up some deans and professors and saying "What do you think are the top 10 schools of X?" Journals which base rankings on factors such as student-teacher ratio, # of Ph.d.'s, citations to works by professors at universities, # of publications, # of students graduated, # of students placed, much better way to judge than the beauty contests. Big 10 +1 is not the list of the top-ranked *music* schools.

You can make up your own output measures. How many of this professor's students get playing jobs? Teaching jobs? Graduate? Win competitions?
