Granted, it's been 30 years since I was at Interlochen but they have always had a low brass instructor for both trombone and tuba. Dave Sporny was there for ages before he went on to UMass. Dave was a great trombonist, played a little euphonium and probably didn't know how to hold a tuba. I leaned a great deal from him. Yes, Tom Ricobono plays the trombone, I met him at Florida State at a residency Mr Jacobs did years ago. He knows about the tuba, you'll learn something.

Working shows, I am always amazed by comments like this (at a horn show) "What would I learn from a book about Mr Jacobs? I play horn, he played tuba." At a tuba show, "What would I learn from a book about Mr Farkas? He played horn, I play tuba." My response was "I was fortunate enough to study with Mr Jacobs, I always wished I would have had a few lessons from Mr Farkas." You can always learn from a great musician no matter what they play. Guess an example of this happenned last summer - I did the Jacobs presentation for the National Flute Association. Figure that?
