If the stronger springs objectively have improved the resonance of your tuba, then I can only see one valid explanation for that:

The stronger springs return the pistons to their true open position, so that no turbulence is created around the badly aligned valve ports formerly caused by the old springs not lifting the pistons sufficiently.

But honestly I believe the improvement to happen between your ears.
