I agree with you about the overtones, a good mix of sounds being needed for power in the lower register, that the low frequencies (alone) are more felt than heard, etc....BUT...According to your website, your Mirafone doesn't project higher overtones as well as your York Master (which might also imply other American style tubas) While it may not match people's perceptions of a "core" sound, either the ratio of core "fundamental frequency" to overtones is higher or I missed something.
