I don't know about the AJ/York/Holton story, but he did have Meinl-Weston make him a bell front version of the model 33 around '69. I have a photo (from an old 'Getzen Gazette') of him playing it. If I can figure out how to post the photo, I will. I subsequently bought that horn from him, though with an upright bell. It was my main axe for over 20 years.
