And when I was a kid (yes, there was a time) I grew up in a two family house in a nice area just outside of Boston. The guy upstairs was a Boston Bruin (Pat Eegan - some people still remember him)and he drove a soda truck during the summer to pay the bills. There wasn't any TV money because there wasn't any TV.

I used to get a lot of "pre-owned hockey stuff that he'd bring home after practice and I met a bunch of his team-mates. Equipment? Almost none. A pair of skates and a wooden stick, and maybe a few light duty pads. No need for a 100 pound equipment bag in those days, even for the pros. And our high school hockey team depended on ice on the local pond for practice.

Things are better today,right? Right?? Right?????
