If I remember correctly back in high school we did an arrangement of 'Vehicle', I can't remember the composer off the top of my head right now, well known jazz/funk tune. Anyway, the tuba part was basically a written out funk line, really cool but hard to memorize. If I forgot my part I just improvised something. It was definately more rhythmic than a standard walking bass line.
