When I buy instruments for resale that "morons" like you ruin with vegetable oil, the one thing that seems to disolve it is connecting a GENUINE rubber hose - like the ones the connect to washing machines (plastic "garden" hose is dangerous!...' will probably come apart at the brass connections and burn you!) to a HOT water faucet and blasting HOT water through the instrument for quite a number of minutes. Sometimes, it takes several of these treatments.
btw, When folks come in having done this to their own instruments, I shrug my shoulders and send 'em away. As far as cleaning dried up vegetable oil out of instruments is concerned, unless I'm making a TON of money (like reselling a pro-level instrument for a lot more) I'd rather clean bedpans at a nursing home than dried up vegetable oil out of a brass instrument.
