I had this problem on my old 186 BBb. I don't have the same problem on Eb or F (each of which I played for multiple years). I don't have the same problem on Eb or F at the same relative harmonic compared with the BBb (i.e. above middle C). I don't have the same problem on a .689 bore CC, such as a Sam Gnagey creation. I assume I wouldn't have the problem on a Conn 52/4/6J CC, and I intend to try one to find out. My 186CC (present horn, with .770 bore, approx.) is easier for me as I approach middle C, but not completely missing the characteristics of the BBb. I am completely willing to accept the possibility that the limitation is with the player and not the horn. But for me, some horns give the appearance of completely curing the problem.

My experience only,
