A tuba player named George Jones (UNT alum, I studied with him in the mid 80's) had a 185 or 186 CC which had a main tuning slide kicker coupled to his vented 1st valve. Basically, he had a rod connecting the main slide to a pivoting device mounted on the leg of the rotary valve lever mounting assembly. The pivoting device had two rods coming off of it at 90 degree angles. Ond of these rods connected to the main slide rod. The other leg of the pivot device connected to a long rod which ran up the tuba and was attached to his first valve slide.

So, when he pulled his first slide, the main slide came out as well, thus allowing a pull on any note, and double pull on notes using the first valve.

George's tuba only had 4 valves, but this allowed him to get all the notes at the bottom.

I had no idea what the hell I was doing at the time as a player, but it seemed to work very well when I tried it.
