I watched a similar situation happen with a former student and a girl in the band where he did his student teaching. The student teacher and girl did get married later, but the head band director was summarily fired. No questions and in the middle of the year.

I don't believe you should be put in an awkward situation like this, but sometimes even the students have to take a stand. If you're right, then the situation will be rectified. If you are wrong, you can always apologize to the counselor or principal. The band director need never know.
