This year's William Bell Memorial Tuba Day, in Perry, IA, is November 1. Perry is about 35 minutes NW of Des Moines. This year's clinician will be Cindy Short, a pretty durn good euphonium picker and wife of Mike Short. Mike and Cindy are organizers of Tuba Day (Mike Plake, they will get revenge upon you!!!), although Mike is conveniently busy with gigs that day. Specifics will follow later, but generally the day consists of a massed euph/tuba ensemble rehearsal, a clinic, then a concert featuring the clinician and the ensemble. After the concert, a trip to the cemetery to play "Kom, Susser Tod" and other things at Mr Bell's gravesite. It's really a fun day, and the graveside performance is very touching.
