In Georgia you audition for district band and the 1st round of all-state in January. You play 5 chromatically adjacent scales, chromatic, and sight reading. Each instrument has a different minimum score to make it to the 2nd round. I think tuba is an 80 or so. At the 2nd round, you have 1 or 2 prepared pieces and sight reading that was confusing and hard as all h&ll. They then took the top scores and split the bands up.
