Mary Ann, one additional advantage that I find with 3+1 is that I can play low register
passages with lots of 4th valve movement a lot more quickly than using my pinkie finger with a 4-inline arrangement.

I had my eye on the Meinl Weston you bought too, it looks very much like an Alex 151 tenor tuba. If you get a chance to record it with your new recording setup, please email me a copy. I just acquired a Sony tcd-d100 and Sony mic, and am quite happy with the quality I am getting recording practice sessions and quintet. Also somewhat surprised at how much help it is as an aid to better playing. All those things my teachers have told
me over the years really are true...
