Bathing a rotary horn

I've had my (5 RV) tuba for about a year now and I guess it's about time for a bath. I know that with most tubas one removes the slides and valves before throwing her in the tub (figuratively of course). I also know that I know nothing about the complicated world of rotary valves -i.e. how to remove them and how to reassemble them. Is it necessary to remove rotary valves before bathing a horn, or will they be OK to stay in with all the soap and water?
Thanks,
Ted
p.s. how often should one wash tuning slides?
