This trick only works for music of Eb instruments like the Eb horn, alto sax and Eb trumpet. The method is to read in bass clef and transpose the key up a minor third. So, C major would become Eb major. There is no real "trick" for reading Bb trumpet music. What works for me is to read in treble clef and transpose a major 2nd down and I drop down a couple of octaves.
