The time required to cause bad damage is great. Acid runs are a bane to all who do overhaul or lacquer work. A secret here: acid runs can happen to the best repairman. Not neutralize all the flux? That's the cause. How to solve it? Good question. If the solder seam is thick enough to not split when the horn is buffed, then no problems. If not, then acid will usually leak out from under a brace over time, and that's called acid bleed.

Acid bleed is not fatal, it's just not real pretty.
