Its certainly not common to find a slide too long on any given instrument (particularly french horns, tubas, and baritones. (Name-brand trumpets seem to be more consistant.)

Spend around or under $100 and get the slide shortened by someone who will do a nice job...

...Also, it's pretty easy to figure out "how much" material to remove. Pull the slide out even farther to a certain point and make an observation about "just how much flatter" the pitch goes. You can pretty much bet that if you cut off the same amount of material to sharpen those pitches as much as pulling it out to a certain point additionally flattened by the same amount, that will be enough.
