I own a much earlier Holton 6/4 BBb (1909!~) which has me puzzeled.
The open partials are now within a workable range, after having several inches taken off the main slide. I originally believed this was a Low Pitch Horn. But now I've discovered that the valve slides appear to be be an inch or 2 shorter than my other BBb tubas. Which leads me to believe it was high pitch horn built up to play lower. Do any of the expert craftsman out there feel that this horn would be better in tune with a new set of valve slides and main slide? Let me know your thoughts,here or in a personal email.
