Agreed on the rehearsal thing...
Looking back, well, even AT THE TIME, I thought that doing only 2 concerts per semester was absurd in undergrad wind symphony. That meant about 5-6 weeks of rehearsal PER CONCERT!! Playing the SAME STUFF over and over again for weeks and weeks was incredibly tedious. (and, as you said, unrealistic) I think many college orchestra/band programs need to do at least 3-4 concerts per semester, limiting it to 3-4 weeks per program.
I think doing 6 weeks of rehearsal has VERY diminisahing returns, at least after the initial 2-3 weeks. Sometimes we even got WORSE around week 5, probably due to intense boredom...
