There was a silver RM-15 at the U of Michigan from the late 70s to at least the mid 90s. I remember seeing pictures of its restoration on Kevin Powers' web site 2 or three years ago. The finish was fine, just the normal collection of dents a communal tuba might pick up.

I had a lacquered RM-15 (3/4 size 5 rotary valve CC) in the early 80s, and the lacquer held up as good as any other under assault from my sweaty hands. Most brass Rudys I've seen have more swirl marks on the brass than other manufacturers' horns, and I've been told that this is because they don't want to remove any more brass than necessary.
