It has been my experience that a larger bore, such as on the VMI vs. the Getzen, makes the high register easier to reach. DOn't ask me to explain why that may be, but I have noticed it consistently. I believe that you are correct in that the only difference between the 52 and 56 is in the diameter of the bell flair, but I couldn't say what kind of impact that way have on the upper register.
