Exactly. Interesting that you mention the TR181 as a jazz oriented horn, that is precisely what I bought it for and it has the ideal tone for a big band, but then I got placed into a bunch of other ensembles as well require a darker tone.
I wanted to add one final point to all this. Comparing Bb tenor trombones to Bb bass trombones is very similar to comparing a 3 valve 3/4 sized BBb tuba to a 5 valve 6/4 sized BBb tuba. The open bugle is the same length but they have VERY different tones, and the additional valves facilitate the low register without false tones. On the CC side, both the Mirafone 184 and Yorkbrunner are both CC tubas, but they could not be farther apart in terms of color.
