In the good ol' USA, as elsewhere, bass trombones are extra-large-bored tenor slide trombones, usually with two trigger-operated valve branches. G and F slide trombones seem to be archaic everywhere, and fully valved F bass trombones seem to be called cimbassos these days (I know that I'll have to duck and run because of THAT statement!).
