Hi,

The second tuba I ever owned was a silver Kalison DS. I really liked the horn. I found that it matched up very well to my playing. The complaint that I had about it was that I found it to be a very mouthpiece sensitive horn. Most mouthpieces seemed very bland. Only a select few helped me get the sound I had in my mind's ear. It was a very vanilla horn. The sound was not what I had in mind. The next horn I bought, had a WONDERFUL sound, but it was just too big for me. I now own a Conn 56J and I wouldn't trade it for another horn in the world. I have the same facility that I had on the Kalison, but it has the sound that I had always craved. It's just a wonderful horn. I guess that is why Kyle Turner has chosen it for the New York Phil.

My $0.02

-Todd
