Brook Mays is a big music store. I don't think they will commit fraud or anything like that, but neither might they tell you that you are paying too much for something. As with most sales establishments, you as the buyer must be aware of the prevailing price for what you are buying, if price is a concern.

Brook Mays has no tuba specialist on staff any more, so you won't get expert advice.

That said, the instrument in question is at a price that would cover, at prevailing prices, any BBb tuba on the market except a Hirsbrunner or a Willson. You could get a Rudy Meinl, a Miraphone 191, even an Alexander for that money. You could get two King 2341's for that price.

If the 621 is the instrument you must have, I would seek a used example. I would also ask for emails from 621 BBb owners (I know of at least one on this forum) to get an idea of the price you ought to pay. You may be surprised.

I would suggest a call to Matt Walters at Dillon Music, Tony Clements at Low Brasswerks, Roger Lewis at Brasswind, AND Dave Fedderly at Baltimore Brass. Tell them what you like about the 621 you tried. Get their highly expert advice. Contact info on the links from the Shops page of this site.
