Mike Sanders had a similar case for his Yorkbrunner, and it was very nice.

The only problem is getting in on an airplane. I had a friend who had a similar case for his 5/4 Rudy, and American Airlines flat refused to let him check it as baggage because of its size. He ended up having to ship it as air freight, at very high cost. Of course, these decisions are arbitrarily made based seemingly on the mood of the ticket agent.

Does a professional orchestra will get special dispensation from the airline by prior arrangement? This may not work for individual musicians traveling by themselves.
