I agree with Dr. Young about the 3 valve Besson compensator tubas. They play well in tune. It has always seemed to me that the best solution would be to use a long 4th valve added only as a low register valve to the 3 valve system. Perhaps the good Dr. was however mistaken when referring to the 4 valve models as full double. With all respect I believe they are more commonly known as compensating double instruments.
