I like the previous comments. I would say that the horn has to play and sound consistently throughout all registers, have good response, and be able to be played in tune through slide movement or alternate fingerings. I've always believed that if you find a horn that has "the sound" and you can find a way to play it in tune, that's the one you get. An earlier debate stated that BBb's are designed to play relatively in tune w/o moving slides. You can find CC's like that once in a while, but don't plan on it. I've had good luck with all my horns except for an Alex F I owned. Imade that great Alex sound, but all fingerings were straight from another planet. The sound made it worthwhile. Since then, I've played better Alexanders. I wonder how the new ones play?
