I was faced with the same decision in high school, and I really loved both activities. I finally decided to do band one year, choir the next, etc., and really enjoyed the opportunity to "mix & match". Many instrumentalists fail to understand the great concepts of phrasing, musicality, and vibrato that come from a choral background, but it sounds as though you have a firm grasp on the importance of vocal music in making a "tuba picker" into a well rounded musician.
