as the previous poster mentioned: From my experience there is definitely a thing like the wonder of intense practicing. When playing something real challenging or (for me)new it can be, that I donīt nail it for day after day or sound like crap (thinking back when I started playing the Jacobs Low Register Studies with my F-Tuba, ugh), when then some day I make a big leap and I think thatīs not me playing now (Of course itīs not perfect then within one day but a visible progress). This playing and playing can be quite frustrating but itīs all worth.
So in my opinion, progressing goes in leaps especially after a day or two (but not more...) off the horn after HARD practicing for a time period.
