The 2 laquered horns that are at Custom both play well, one a little better than the other. I was there for 2 days going back and forth between the one I got and one of the laquered ones. They sounded about the same but played a little differently. I finally decided mine played just a little bit more openly.

cutting the slides - I know of two places in my area that I would trust but I'm sure there are many around, the two I'm talking about are Osmun near Boston and Dillon in NJ. Hope that helps, I'm sure if you post a question about it and say where you are you could get some good recommendations. I was hoping the first valve tuning issues were going to go away as I get more comfortable on the horn and they've gotten better but not enough. I think it's neccessary to cut the first valve on the PT22's they're making now. I felt this way about all the ones I tried. Probably be a good idea to let the makers know, anyone know how to go about doing that??
