I switched from a Conn Helleberg to a PT-88 about a year and a half ago. Initially, the phenomenon of having a different mouthpiece made a huge difference in my playing(more core to the pitch, better attacks, flexibility, AMAZING low range, etc.). Over time, i've found that while still a good mouthpiece, the 88 lends itself well to large ensemble playing but not for solo work. I've tried a lot of mouthpieces in the solo category and the Perantucci can make a lighthearted piece such as the Plog "Three Miniatures" sound as though it is performed on a bulldozer. My advice...PT-88 for large ensemble, something a bit less "bucketesque" for chamber works.
