To be honest, I think I would run into some problems trying to do the same, but to take one example, Andrew Duncan, recently retired from the Halle Orchestra in Manchester had an incredible ability to do that. Not that it was always to my taste, but hopefully it was to his... And I have been told by someone claiming to know of mr.Duncan's playing, that Simon Styles (sp?) of the Tonhalle Orchestra in Zurich, does the same thing to an even greater extent. I haven't actually heard him myself, but I heard someone talking about the Tonhalle had played 'the great tuba concerto' Mahler 6.... (on a B&H EEb).
