Wurstfest is a play on words, and the event was first developed to support the local sausage industry. Indeed, you can have your choice of several excellent varieties of locally produced wurst, plus beer by the pitcher (though not much of the good German stuff) and a bunch of other artery-clogging concoctions. Mmmmmm.
In the years that I played Wurstfest gigs, it was always a close call as to whether the pay fully financed the refreshment.
