I caught the Octubafest gig last night at the Blair School of Music and Vanderbilt University. The program included:
G.R. Davis - Jazz Piece, Brian Neher
Gilbert Long - Unaccompanied in 5 Movements, John Stevens
Mark McMahon - Concertino for Tuba, Rolph Wilhelm
Bill Huber - Don't Get Around Much Anymore (played over 5 octaves in this!!!)
Eric Stevens - Song for Tuba, Eric Stevens (original composition)
There were various other solists and groups on the program. These were just some of my favorites. Man, Nashville has quite a tuba scene. Gil and Mark gave near flawless performances!
I hope that some of you were also able to hear this concert. It was a real treat.
