Recording #3 is very interesting, but not rare. It is the first (1956) of the 3 Hoffnung Music Festival recordings that EMI/Angel released in various packages over the years. It's even been reissued on CD.
What IS rare is the subcontrabass tuba itself. Amazingly, no one seems to know exactly what happened to that beast. Some report that it ended up at a circus in South Africa. Anna Hoffnung, Gerard's widow, would like to know its whereabouts, as would many curious tubists!
