I play a PT-6P in a large band on a day to day basis, and I believe it is a good combination of "big tuba sound" and clarity/focus. There are some intonation quirks you have to get used to, such as very sharp F, F#, and G at top of the staff. It is possible to compensate with your chops, but I know some people that use alternate fingerings (4th valve on G) to help out.
You may want to have an experienced tuba repair person check out your valve casings too- some PT-6's have rough valve casings which cause problems with the plastic valve guides.
Have fun with your new horn!
Adam
