FWIW, some of my best practice times came from outdoors practicing. There are some key things to remember, though, in order to fully benefit from outdoor practicing.
1) Play in both covered and uncovered areas. The uncoverd areas can be crucial in picking up strange sounds emitting from your bell that may be covered up when the sound is bouncing back at you as if you were under shelter. The covered areas are good to make sure you're not playing too loudly.

2) From time to time record yourself indoors and out doors to make sure you are not doing more harm than good.

3) Stay very well hydrated as the outdoor environment can suck liquid right out of you.

4) Don't practice in lightning storms.

Good Luck,

Matt G
