Get a cup and a rim you like from Doug Elliott, and a collection of shanks. Better yet, find a way to spend a day in the Maryland suburbs of DC, with Doug. He will start with the sound and move to the intonation, with the trade-offs between them clear as you go. You can't be that systematic with a pile of different mouthpiece. This is how I gained control of the somewhat wild intonation on my York Master.
