Your friend would be much better off to get new Conn 20Ks or King 2350s.

If you can't afford new, used, reconditioned

Conn 20Ks,
14Ks (the .734 bore horns with ordinary valves),
38Ks (pre WWII long valve predecessor of 20K other wise identical - 4 valves is 40K),
32Ks (lightweight pre-WWII sousaphone close to 14K)

or used reconditioned
King 2350s or
1250s (old numbering - same horn as 2350. Also 1250A is the same).

With effort, you will find these horns in silver and satin silver. New ones will play much better than the Yamahas. Used ones may even be better than the new ones, some of the best sounding Conns and Kings I've played and heard have been pre-WWII 20K and 38K or 1250A sousaphones.
