All of the preceeding are excellent commentaries. My only addition would be that if you really want to put a lot into practicing, then a full time job could work against you. Different people react differently, but when I get home at night I'm really tired, and trying to practice three hours or more is just too much. If you can get a half time job that supports you, pays for lessons, and lets you live somewhere where you actually can practice without having the neighbors come after you with baseball bats, then that year or so off can reap huge benefits.
