Sorry, I thought you would want to use "Dies Irae"
correctly.
(My mistake ...)
When I performed "Symphonie Fantastique" in a series of
concerts with the Dallas Symphony, the guest conductor,
Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos, wanted octaves. Ev Gilmore
played the 1st part on F tuba and I used a 4/4 Rudy.
I think we got a pretty good sound.
However, I heard a great performance by the National Symphony
with David Bragunier (Alex CC) on top and Marty Erickson
playing the 2nd part on Eb that really knocked my socks off.
Gene Pokorny has also been innovative in the use of the contrabass
tuba on top and bass tuba on the 2nd part.
Good luck,
Tim "pineapple poll" Loehr
