Ian,
I believe that the bore on the Conn is actually smaller than the Yamaha. It does not sound honky however. The bell on the 2J is 16" the 3J is 18". They both weigh around 20# and probably about 35-36" high. The pistons are front action but the ergonomics seem a little better on the Conn then the Yamaha. The YCB-661 you mention is a 5V rotary CC tuba. Judging from the ones I have played, they are actually quite responsive. They have a .815 bore and a very good low register. They are like a "piggy" style horn and the negative of those style of horns seems to be that they jusy don't project enough for the given input.
