I'm sure you already have _The Tuba Family_ by Clifford Bevan, 2nd Edition, Piccolo Press, 2001. In it, he talks about the instrument expected by Ravel was a small French tuba in C, pitched a step higher than a euphonium.

In his CD Orchestral Excerpts for Tuba, Eugene Pokorny suggests that the part be given to a trombone player and played on a euphonium, and then proceeds to undermine his point by playing it sublimely on what I understand was an Alexander Tenor Tuba (that rare instrument seems to be like an oversized euphonium).

Like I said, I'm sure you have these already, but I thought I'd get some the obvious secondary sources out of the way in hopes that the more learned among us will reveal more primary sources.
