I checked the width of the rod with that of my thinnest coat hanger and the hanger is just a bit too thick. If I had spokes laying around around they would probably be too thick as well. This is the reason why I am just going to take it to my local brass repair guy. He has the right tools for the job. I don't. I still appreciate your advice and I will keep it in mind if this ever happens in the future. Thankyou.
