I do not think I personally would want to chase a tighter or more-focussed
sound on my BAT. The calls for the horn are ALWAYS based upon its support
of large ensembles, and quite honestly it is very responsive as is and if
I want to I can make it bark quite nicely. I think its a good combination now,
but felt that if I permanently attached the leadpipe and soldered it
to the bell that I would get even MORE "blossom" in the sound
and it'd darken up perhaps quite a bit more.
What is interesting is the terms we are using seem to describe
different playing characteristics for the same configurations. On the old euro horn
I had I got more brightness and focus when I lifted the leadpipe, yet on your Holton
it sounds like you're saying you got more of that when you soldered the leadpipe down ??!?!
